Turin Joins the Global Network of Cities Innovating with Wonderly
Turin, Italy – November 2024 – The City of Turin takes a bold step toward the digital future. The Dipartimento Servizi Educativi of the Città di Torino and ITER – Istituzione Torinese per una Educazione Responsabile have announced the successful results of the Wonderly pilot program, the international learning platform for programming and artificial intelligence education.
During the 2023/2024 academic year, Wonderly transformed learning experiences in primary and secondary schools, reaching 2,000 students with no prior experience in computing. The pilot was framed within a rigorous study designed under ESSA Level 3 standards (Promising Evidence), aiming to validate the platform’s effectiveness in developing computational thinking and AI skills in an accessible, engaging, and effective way.
Findings that Redefine Digital Learning
The results confirm Wonderly’s positive impact and high acceptance among participants:
- 95.5% of students reported learning new programming concepts.
- 88.9% of educators found the experience “very useful” and expressed strong interest in repeating it.
- The platform received an average rating of 9/10 from students.
- A positive correlation was observed between the use of the platform and students’ motivation and comprehension.
For 98% of participants—many encountering programming for the first time—Wonderly provided a solid introduction to critical skills for the Age of Artificial Intelligence. The study shows that the platform not only facilitates the understanding of technological concepts but also transforms students’ motivation and perception toward digital learning.
“With this experience, Turin demonstrates its unwavering commitment to responsible and innovative education. Wonderly allowed us to open the door to programming for students who had never been exposed to it, achieving high satisfaction among both teachers and learners,” stated a spokesperson from ITER – Istituzione Torinese per una Educazione Responsabile.
Commitment to Shaping Technology Creators
From Wonderly’s perspective, this study reinforces the platform’s mission to turn students into creators of technology and to offer educators an inclusive, sustainable tool for integrating digital skills into the classroom.
Leandro Finol, CEO of Wonderly, commented:
“The success of the Turin pilot is more than just a metric—it’s a statement of intent for the future. We’ve proven that programming and AI don’t have to be intimidating or exclusive concepts. Ninety-eight percent of these students started with no experience, and today, they’re not just learning—they’re creating. Turin, with its vision and commitment, now stands as a model for Europe. We’re ready to work with the city and its educators to expand this impact, ensuring their schools not only keep pace with technological change but lead it.”
Next Steps: Toward Consolidation in Europe
These promising results pave the way for expanding the implementation to more schools in the city. Future plans include large-scale evaluations and long-term follow-ups, which will help establish Turin as a European benchmark at the forefront of digital education innovation.
